Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

Review

Intro

I was told to expect an enjoyable slop anime, and an enjoyable slop is what I got. I did procrastinate a lot when writing this review as while I did enjoy myself a lot while watching, I didn’t really have much to say about it after so excuse me if my yapping is a bit on the shorter side. But if you do want to ask me about something in specific that I failed to mention, just ask I love getting post-review questions

Story

The overall story is nothing to write home about, we have Glenn who learned the cruelty of the world and that his dreams might only exists as ideals. His students.. that are mostly irrelevant except 2, or well 3 if you count Re=L later on. It did feel like the pacing was a bit fast, at one point Glenn enters the academy, terrorist attack soon after, now time for a nice tournament arc? no, terrorist attack time, now let’s jump to a trip with another terrorist attack. It really was just action after action which I didn’t like in of itself. What I didn’t like was that even after all that, even after the entire 12 episodes… We still barely know shit about Researchers of Divine Wisdom, all we know is that they funded cloning research, bringing the dead to life, there is some secret master we know nothing about, and they’re evil, and there is something called the Akashic Records out there and despite being in the title of the show, all we know is that it exists and gives power or something. Then midway through somehow there is an insane individual in the court too who killed Sara, cool. I know the floating castle/island has to do with sistine’s arc… whenever it is in the future

Characters

We have Glenn who’s cool and a pervert, Sistine who’s down bad for glenn, rumia who has some god gifted power that everyone and their mother wants for themselves, Re=L our must protecc target how dare they treat her like that, and Celica is mommy and everyone else is irrelevant Garf Sizeable cast still but I wish something was done with the others and even then Celica is basically non-existant, if she wasn’t hot I’d have not cared about her either and finally she starts to do something and the season ends… I considered switching to the light novel for more of Celica, then I learned it isn’t licensed and uhh I couldn’t bother checking if the fan translations were any good and lost motivation SubaruTeehee I do like Glenn’s character, how he aspired to be a hero of justice and then learned that the world just isn’t full of rainbows and sunshine, gave up, shut himself in, kicked out by Celica and while teaching his students learned to accept himself more. Re=L is also an interesting character and I liked her entire arc with the Researchers and her fake “brother”. I don’t have much to say about Sistine other than what I already said Run

Music & Animation

Honestly, it was pretty good, music itself and was pretty good during actions but most other times pretty forgettable. Animation was also decent, it definitely had higher production quality than most fantasy and isekai slop then again the bar is pretty low these days. Liked the OP and ED quite a lot too though I do prefer the OP to the ED, but not bad songs

Conclusion

Good anime, and while I do have many questions unanswered this is one of those shows that I doubt I’ll continue by myself unless it miraculously gets a season 2 after an entire decade… yes it will be a decade next spring so you can start feeling old. I know there is also a finished manga but no clue how well that adapts the source material FrierenThink
